Fredericksburg: Relocating To This Historic Texas Town

By Pammy McGrath

If you are considering a move to Texas, you definitely are not alone as this is one of the nation's fastest growing states. One option for those moving to Texas is to consider a move to Texas Hill Country. While there are many towns in this region, there are several reasons to consider selecting the city of Fredericksburg.

Tourists flock to Fredericksburg for many reasons, and its historic charm is one of its biggest draws. The historic downtown, part of the National Register of Historic Places, is filled with wonderful examples of 19th-century architecture. If you wish to live in a historic Texas Hill Country home, there are usually some historic homes for sale in Fredericksburg.

While it's not far from huge Texas cities such as San Antonio and the Capitol of Austin, Fredericksburg captures that small-town ambiance that you might be seeking. You drive into the city for sporting events and cultural events or shopping and still enjoy peace and quiet at home. So if you want to get away from cities and sprawling suburbs but still occasionally enjoy what the city has to offer, Fredericksburg would be an excellent option.

While it has less than 11,000 inhabitants, Fredericksburg still offers a wide assortment of interesting things to do. If you love the great outdoors, you can enjoy visits to Old Tunnel State Park and Enchanted Rock State Park, both of which are just outside of town. At Enchanted Rock State Park you can hike and backpack, enjoying vistas of unusual rock formations as well as native flora and fauna. Old Tunnel State Park is named after the railroad tunnel in the park. Now that the trains have stopped, the tunnel is home to thousands of bats from about May to October, and many people come every year to see these nocturnal creatures.

In addition to nearby local and state parks, there are art galleries, museums, wineries, boutiques, antique shops and many more attractions. Museums include the National Museum of the Pacific War, which also includes a museum dedicated to Fredericksburg's most famous son, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.

No matter what type of Hill Country real estate you are searching for, you can find it in Fredericksburg. The experts at Nixon Real Estate can help you find a great single-family home, a large property or ranch, as well as a commercial property or any other type of real estate in Fredericksburg or throughout Texas Hill Country.
