Living in Brondesbury

By Derek Gears

Brondesbury is among the zones of Kilburn in London. It is between the Brent and Camden Local authority areas. On the North London Line is the Brondesbury railway station, which is on a bridge connecting the Kilburn High road on the Brondesbury area of the Kilburn in the North Western part of London. It is located about a fifth of a kilometre south east of the Kilburn underground railway station, and about a half mile North West of Kilburn High Road station.

History

Brondesbury owes it origins to the establishment of the railway station along the Euston main Line. This, coupled with a few developments, which include the construction of the adjacent Manor of Belsize and the erection of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners' estates in Kilburn may be regarded as the main reasons behind the growth. The pioneer settlements are located on the south side of the Cavendish Road, which ultimately leads to the railway, characterized by the imposing two storey abodes complete with basements. A hallmark of Victorian design and architecture, these were all established before council records were constituted as from 1875.

Property types and architecture

A majority of the Brondesbury real estate comprises of majestic Victorian terraced houses, dotted with a number of relatively modern flats and high-rise buildings.

Shopping and entertainment

Kilburn High Road does not fall short with regard to entertainment spots and shopping amenities. Indeed, shopping and entertainment are important aspects of life. The Irish pubs, owing to the nearby Kilburn, are bound to offer an ideal watering point. The massive and famous O2 mall has a branch at the Finchley Road, and will meet any shopping needs one may have. The West Hampstead and Finchley Roads offer a delectable selection of restaurants and bars, as well as a fine cinema house along Finchley Road. Finally, Kilburn boasts of the classy Tricycle Theatre.

Brondesbury Transport

Brondesbury is well endowed with regard to commuting alternatives. Rapid, uninterrupted access to the Metropolitan, Bakerloo and the Jubilee underground railway lines is guaranteed at all times. Furthermore, the numerous bus routes into the West End complement the North London Over ground line at Brondesbury. Indeed, with regard to transportation, all is well.

Commons & Parks

In addition to all the conveniences, any location should be weighed according to the social amenities it boasts of before being adjudged as prime. Kilburn scores highly in this regard, owing to the wonderful and modern tennis facilities available at the Kilburn Grange Park and Queens Park. The former is an eight acre area complete with a children's playing area, three tennis courts and a multipurpose games area. Floodlit fields, complete with changing rooms are also available.

Brondesbury Local Authorities

The residents are represented at the Brent council, which also undertakes to carry out all the duties of a council. These include providing social services, education, housing and town planning.

The conservation area gives a glimpse of Victorian suburban development spanning twenty five years. Specifically designed for the growing middleclass, the homes are draped in artistic detail and designs.
