Phase One is a 5-acre (2.02 hectare) site that is located at the southern end of Atkinson/Alexandra Park. Because of TCHC's commitment to providing "zero displacement" during revitalization, Phase One has been divided into two sub-phases (phase 1a and phase 1b). The sub-phasing reduces the number of units demolished at one time and the number of residents that will be relocated.

Atkinson Housing Co-operative/Alexandra Park is being changed into a mixed-income, mixed-use area with a 15-year, 2-phase revitalization. This is Toronto Neighborhood Housing's first revitalization in collaboration with an independent housing co-operative. The prepared revitalization involves:. Demolition and replacement of 333 townhouses and apartment units. Refurbishment of 473 apartment units. The addition of 1,540 brand-new market condominium and townhouse units.

The revitalization will connect Atkinson/Alexandra Park to the surrounding community by introducing new connector streets and green spaces, including a new public park. The revitalization is committed to supporting and strengthening the sense of community among Atkinson/Alexandra Park residents by providing social and economic development opportunities and new community facilities.

The resident relocation process for residents in Phase 1a of the revitalization has begun. The Toronto Community Housing Relocation Office opened in Atkinson/Alexandra Park in March 2013. This office provides residents with on-site access to the staff that will be supporting resident relocation.

Alexandra Park is a diverse community located in the heart of Toronto's downtown, surrounded by the vibrant neighbourhoods of Kensington Market, Chinatown and West Queen West.

The Alexandra Park community was constructed starting in 1968. The last structure constructed was 20 Vanauley, constructed in the 1980s. It was originally a public housing neighborhood with some buildings handled by the province and others by the City of Toronto. By 1990, the leadership of the Alexandra Park Locals Association (APRA) were convinced that locals would prefer tenant-led property management. After years of area examination, in 1998 the province approved a plan to change Alexandra Park to the Atkinson Housing Co-operative (Atkinson/Alexandra Park) and transfer residential property management responsibilities to the freshly formed co-operative.

Residents can move from their existing unit into a temporary relocation unit inside Atkinson/Alexandra Park, and then into a new revitalization replacement unit. Residents can move from their existing unit into a temporary relocation unit outside of Atkinson/Alexandra Park in another Toronto Community Housing property, and then into a new revitalization replacement unit. Residents can choose to leave Atkinson/Alexandra Park to live in another Toronto Community Housing community.
