By Carmella Krier

With every decision that we make, we try our best that to make sure that we've made the right decision. This is also the same when we look for a new apartment. In able to do this, we search for a lot of information either through friends or the internet. Before starting your search, it is best to narrow down your search to a specific location, the type of apartment that you want and how much it will cost you.

When you're done listing the potential apartments that you'd like to see, immediately set an appointment so that you can view these places. Arrange your schedule and take the time to view these places. Sometimes, photos from internet ads can be deceiving so it's better for you to have a look for yourself. More than these, when you view these places, make sure that you ask about important things like the utilities.

When you view apartments always check on its exterior maintenance. Are the surroundings maintained and clean? Check on the neighborhood as well and see if the neighborhood around is peaceful and quiet. If the apartment is in the building, ask what the association fees would cover. What are the services that the building maintenance may provide for you? Is the building well-maintained?

Next and one of the most essential utility to check is the water. Make sure that your water supply is strong and good. Water is very essential in everything that we do. We use it to cook, drink and do other household chores so you better make sure that the place you would be moving into would not have problems with water.

3. Since you'll be opening the faucets, check if all the drainage system as well. Is it sluggish or clogged? Try to flush the toilet as well so that you can be sure that it is not clogged and the flush works. In doing these, you'd also see if there are any leaks in the apartment.

After that, check for the power or electrical supply. Try turning on all the light switches and check if everything works. As for the plugs, you would need to bring something to test it. The most convenient one is you mobile charger. Just do a quick run through to make sure each plug works.

5. The final thing to check for is cracks along the walls, ceiling, floor and windows. Also check if the door and window hinges work fine or perfectly. This will give you an idea if the apartment is being well-maintained or not.

If you find anything wrong with the apartment, make sure to say something about it. You need to point it out so that it can get fixed. As a last note, ask for the person that you can contact if ever you would need to do some repairs or changes in the place. Since you are renting, any major problems should be handled by the owner of the apartment.
