St James Plantation Is A Paradise For Active Seniors

By Karen Allen

For those seniors lucky enough to have saved for retirement and know what they want to do with the rest of their lives, moving into an area they have visited and learned to love is like a dream come true. Many choose a place for its natural beauty, good climate, and amenities. The coast of North Carolina and St James Plantation has great charm and allure.

For seniors with an active lifestyle, who are always on the go and love having plenty of things to do, this coastal community is an ideal retirement opportunity. You won't see harsh winters or oppressive summers here. You will still be able to enjoy the changing seasons however, without giving up your outdoor activities.

You might stroll along the oak lined streets and enjoy the beauty of stately and gracious homes with their classic antebellum architecture. You can wander through the quaint shops that flourish in the downtown area. You can also enjoy fresh seafood at excellent restaurants and spend hours browsing the eclectic art galleries.

On any given day, you might choose to play different championship courses designed by golf legends Nicklaus, Irwin, Dye, and Cate. If you aren't in the mood for a full round, you can try the driving ranges, practice greens, or sign up for one of the frequent clinics offered by the club. All you need is one membership to give you access to all four courses.

If you are a boater, you will love the fact that the St. James Marina can offer you the safety of the Intracoastal when the ocean gets rough. The rest of the time, you can enjoy the Atlantic, just five minutes away. The marina is full service with dry stack storage that will accommodate three hundred plus boats and more than one hundred fifty wet slips. The marina restaurant is famous for its crab cakes, alfresco dining, and live music.

If hiking and biking are what you enjoy, there are any number of trails you can walk and ride, both inland and on the Intracoastal. There are nests of Great Blue Herons in the marshes for you to watch, and the famous Venus Flytraps that grow wild here are something residents love to point out to newcomers.

Fitness buffs will enjoy the classes available all the time as well as the saunas, indoor and outdoor pools, weight training and more. As a member you will have access to the four elegant clubs and all the amenities that go with them. One simple membership covers everything.

St. James is a thriving community rich in natural beauty, history, and charm. Water lovers, art lovers, sportsmen, gourmets, and shopping enthusiasts can all satisfy their hobbies in style here. It truly is a wonderful place to call home.
