By M Walker

There are many people making the choice to move to the Kelowna, BC area of Canada. So many new arrivals have made the city one of the most rapidly growing population centers in North America. New residents are of retirement age, as well as younger employees. They choose the city because of its mild climate and because of the many things to do and see. The many new residents make staying up with the demand for Kelowna real estate almost impossible.

There is a hearty market for homes in the area, thanks to the growth of population. Inventory of listings is not large, particularly in the recent time frame. There are new residents coming into the city who want to live in comfortable and aesthetically appealing Kelowna homes. They want to find the top-rated neighborhoods in the city to call home. The city is spread out over a larger geographical area than most communities of a similar population level. The result is mixed neighborhoods and commute times which can be lengthy.

There are ten major divisions in the city. Within each of the sectors, there are multiple neighborhoods. The most recent estimates of population size are around 120,000, but the numbers are changing so rapidly that they could be much higher. There is a thriving tourism base in the area, thanks to the beautiful Okanagan Valley and the Okanagan Lake as well.

Tourists visit Okanagan Lake for the fishing, boating, golf, hiking, biking, water sports and other outdoor activities. Winter sports activities include alpine and cross country skiing at the Silver Star and Big White ski resorts. Many homeowners throughout the region are employed in service industries and tourist-related jobs. This part of British Columbia is a center for internationally known wine production. There are many vineyards which are established south of the metro area, where the climate is just right for grape production. A national fruit-bar firm, Sun-Rype also has established a presence in the community. The type of agriculture and climate makes this part of Canada similar to Napa Valley in Central California.

The city is located in south-central British Columbia, Canada. The regional District of Central Okanagan has its headquarters in the city. In population, the greater metro area is the 3rd largest BC province city and 22nd largest population in Canada. The name of this city means "grizzly bear" in the indigenous language. The metro area and Kelowna market update includes Penticton, Summerland, Peachland, Lake Country City and West Kelowna.

The weather which characterizes the area is generally somewhat dry. The summers are hot, with plenty of sunshine. During the winter season, the weather turns cold and cloudy. There are four separate seasons each year. The moderating influence of Lake Okanagan and the protection of sheltering mountains help to keep the area somewhat warmer that is expected of other Canadian cities.

In Kelowna homes for sale are still available with many styles to suit the buyers' preference. The prices are somewhat higher than in other Canadian listings.
