Advantages Of Using Brazed Tools

By Cynthia Young

There are many ways of combining two pieces of metals. You can do it by soldering or you can do it by welding. However, another process that is being used is known as brazing. It can be done by using a filler metal known as braze. When bonding the two metals, the filler is inserted between the gaps or the joint. After it is cooled down, the bond will be very strong. It even is stronger than the base metals.

The brazing process is very much similar to soldering. The only difference is the metals used and the temperatures. Different kinds of metals can be joined together as long as they fit nicely and without any large gaps. The use of brazed tools is very common among many metal craft shops today. Even in the industrial and automobile area, these are commonly used.

Before joining the metals together, there are several things that need to be done. Cleaning the metal or the area that will be joined is crucial. Otherwise, the bond will not be that effective or strong. Washing the surface of the metal and applying melted flux is a good thing to do. The flux helps reduce the oxidation during the process and smoothen the surface of the joined pieces.

There are several advantages of brazing as compared to welding. While welding and brazing are very similar, they are also very different. For one, brazing is suitable for joining metals that are different. Take for example joining silver and copper. Also, non-metal parts can be joined to metals. That is why more and more are using this kind of method.

Strength is another benefit one can get from brazing. When two objects are bonded together using this method, it can be quite impossible to break because it can absorb tremendous amount of shock or vibrations. Not only that, almost anyone can do this process because it is simple. There is no need for many other components for someone to do the process.

Finding the right filler is easy as well because there are stores that are distributing and selling it. You may find different forms of fillers. It can either be paste, strips, wire, preform, powder, or in coated form. Each form has its own advantage. It all goes down to the preferred form and convenience of use. The results may vary depending on the fillers used.

Brazing is cost efficient and is a very simple process. Many manufacturers have been using it because they can save more on time and money. The popularity of this method has been growing overtime and many have been using this method in different industrial agencies.

In the modern world today, new technologies have been discovered and being used. While brazing is an old process of joining metals together, newer materials and fillers are being used to ensure that the result is of high quality. It is more convenient and the cost is a lot lesser.
