By Jerish Thieman

Whether you are preparing for a global economic collapse, civil unrest, a catastrophic natural disaster or some other type of global calamity, as a doomsday prepper you understand the importance of becoming as self sufficient as possible. What some see as extremism, you see as a way to ensure survival no matter what occurs.

For preppers, one key to survival is locating an ideal property where you can live sustainably and off the grid in case of disaster or societal collapse. Doomsday prepper real estate in Klickitat County, Washington, is an excellent option for those who wish to distance themselves from society and find a haven from the turmoil that could plague large cities and towns. Klickitat County has few residents and is largely rural with many natural resources.

When choosing a doomsday prepper property, there are many things to consider. If this is a bug out location, you need to consider how easy it will be to evacuate to the site should a situation occur. It's wise to consider selecting a spot within fairly easy driving distance, a place you might be able to reach using a single tank of gas if necessary. Klickitat County is a good option for those who live in or near to Portland, Seattle or Vancouver.

Water is one of your biggest concerns in general, and you need to find a property fairly close to a natural source of water. It also is wise to consider finding a property where you might be able to drill for a well and create a cistern water system. Keep in mind that well water, rain water and other sources of water will need treatment. Establishing a water system should be one of your highest priorities when setting up your survivalist property. In general, Klickitat County receives about 24 inches of rain and about 43 inches of snow during the year.

As a prepper, you know how important it is to have food stores and probably already have a great deal of food on hand. To supplement your stored food, hunting is a good option, and there are many species you can hunt in Klickitat County. Wild turkey, pheasant, partridge and other game birds are plentiful and you can hunt for elk and deer, and even cougar and bear can be found. Every county has its regulations about hunting, so do a bit of research about the laws in Klickitat County prior to your hunting excursions.

You will want to be able to grow a variety of food, and Klickitat County offers many properties ideal for substantial gardens and even the growing of crops. Many preppers choose to raise some livestock, as well, such as chickens, rabbits and perhaps a dairy cow or goats. When searching for a doomsday prepper property, simply select a property where zoning ordinances allow for the raising of animals.
